Over View
This extraordinary once in a lifetime shore excursion, filled with adventure and discovery is truly a day to remember. Upon leaving the port of Tauranga we take you on a sight seeing drive of Mount Maunganui, where you will see the beautiful coastline and one of the best beaches in New Zealand. See the abundant coffee shops, cafes, small boutiques and breath taking scenery, not forgetting the infamous" Mount" which this area is named after. From here we make our way to the first attraction.
Once onboard your helicopter you will experience a scenic flight, landing and 1 hour tour to New Zealand’s only permanently active offshore volcano, White Island. Then we take a 45 minuet tour on a themed Kiwi fruit cart ride through the orchards, see and learn all about the wonder fruit and how this area is perfect for growing this little fuzzy fruit.
Tour Description
This deluxe tour is a big tick of your bucket list and is a once in a lifetime memorable day.
White Island
After a safety brief from your pilot, you will make your way to the helicopter. The flight takes in the beautiful Bay of Plenty regions, then across the ocean making our way to White Island. Soak up the aerial views above the crater before landing on its lunar-like surface. Here embark on a leisurely guided tour of the island's crater floor to view active steam vents (fumaroles), hot streams, vibrant sulfur formations, and the steaming crater itself. This landscape is constantly changing as the activity forms new features and removes old ones. The crater lake changes in depth and temperature from one day to the next. Walk through crumbling mining ruins to view the weathered remains of what was a working factory from 1923 until it was abandoned in 1933. Tours on this volcano are conducted by your pilot-guide, whose wealth of knowledge about the island's history and geology enhances the experience. Ample opportunity for stunning photographs.
"Kiwi Orchard with Cart Tour"
Upon landing back at the mainland your driver/guide for the day will take you to experience the kiwifruit orchards of Te Puke! Where you will have the opportunity to visit a working kiwi fruit orchard. You will be taken on 45 minute guided tour on board a themed kiwi fruit cart, where you will have the opportunity to see the fuzzy little fruit growing while learning a little knowledge about why this fruit thrives here! You have the chance to walk under the vines and get up close to the growing fruit. Learn how this wondrous fruit became established here in New Zealand which, surprisingly, it's not a native plant but an interesting story explains all! At the end of your tour you will be invited to taste-test different varieties of this fruit plus jams, juices, and much more.
Also included in the tour, you will be treated to a complementary local homemade kiwi fruit ice cream, perfect for a hot summer day.
